Filming

Today in my lesson we attempted to shoot the establishing scene of the girl sitting on the chair, tied up in the basement. However we faced some difficulties which prevented our shooting to go smoothly, firstly we plan to shoot the first establishing shot which lasts for about 3 seconds in the dark, however the camera provided does not have night vision which just makes the scene look tacky and not horror like. In solution we plan for Prentice (a group member) to bring in his camera, which has better quality sound and night vision. Moreover the actor we originally planned to use wasn't in school today therefore we had to find someone new to shoot our scene.

costume

The female character is made to be a character who is sophisticated therefore the costume throughout will be used in order to represent this. Moreover we hope to create binary opposition through the characters dress therefore meaning the male character would be wearing typically "slobbish" or more casual clothing throughout our opening.

Within our opening the establishing extract is to be a shot of the house the girl is held hostage in, which zooms into the moon which will follow to a graphic match to the girl sitting on the chair in the basement's pearl necklace. Not only will this connote her wealth and sophistication this will also establish a story for the audience to work with, representing the significance of her wealth.

As the extract develops and we go to the scene where the girl is walking along with the boy in the common we see her in less sophistication yet still dressed up nicely. In a white long coat along with black jeans, back turtle neck and black boots.

These clothes will be in binary opposition to the costume of the male who, throughout will be wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a grey sweatshirt. with some trainers. This will connote to the audience the different within the two characters from the start.

Story board development

1) The establishing shot of the house (at night time/ evening) preferably evening so that the lighting is dim and eerie.
2) Zoom to the moon.
3) Graphic match to a pearl on the girl's necklace.
4) High angle shot of the girl sitting tied up in a basement in darkness. (night vision camera effect)
5) A man walks in, turning the light on (potentially grabbing her face)
6) A long distance shot, panning the woodland area catching the two walking along holding hands.
7) A split screen shot.
  • left hand side; the girl getting ready in the mirror wearing a dressing gown.(high angle)
  • right hand side; a man preparing the basement area with ropes/ chair. (low angle)

8) A shot of the girl walking along the house (panning) up to the front door.
9) A fish eye/ crab shot of the girl through the peep hole.
10) The man opening the door and welcoming her in.
11) DINNER FOR TWO
12) Credits.

typography

From this typography research we came to the conclusion that the font we intend to use should be most like the bottom font. This is because it is more sinister as well as suiting the idea of it being similar to the font on a restaurant menu- 'dinner for two'.

Locations continued

Here is shots of the location we have decided that the girl that will be taken hostage will be put in. We have established the angles that we could potentially use in order to create the sinister look we are trying to create. Moreover we are considering using night vision camera in this scene in order to create the 'thriller' tone we hope to. After the establishing shot of the house, the scene will be brought right back into this room where the girl will be strapped up. We think that this is a scary location due to the scruffy walls and light switch with the tape around it to show danger. Moreover this is a good place for filming as it is bare and we can put up what we need to in order to create the scene we want. As well as this the scene having stairs and being spacious will help in regards to our filming.

locations/ establishing shots

One of the days in the half term the actors were not available at the last minute so the house we are using (Prentice's) Prentice used this time to take picture of the establishing shot and angles of what would look best for the opening:

These photos above, show Prentice trying out angles and seeing which one would look the best for the opening. I think that the bottom one looks the best as it shows the house looking bigger and more grand and therefore sinister. The shot is hard to get right as you cannot frame the entire house unless you are quite far back.

Here is a picture of after affects which he used afterwards to make the scene look darker and therefore more sinister.

Evaluation:
When we go to film our piece we plan to do it in the darkness as then the moon will be most prominant. Therefore using after effects in the actual piece will be unnecessary. But the shot of the house is good that he has taken as it is low angle and therefore make it look more grand and sinister. As well as this we will need to think about how we will incorporate the crab shot view of the girl which we planned to use as the POV shot of the girl standing at the door from the male's view. This is because the door has too windows either side, whether it is a question of boarding out the windows, we will have to plan what to do when it comes to the actual filming.

locations

The image above is the location where we will film in dog walking scene. This is located just down the road from my house and will be easy to access and to film here is no issue
as it is relatively quite and no houses. Here is the location of the house in which the girl is taken hostage:

most of the filming will take place here as well as the place room where he will take the girl hostage (yet to find this).

This spot here is where the crab shot will take place the angle will be a high angle and a fisheye or super wideangle lens will be used to create a peep hole effect to make it look as if she is being watched and a plan is taking place, also creates suspense and the idea that she is trapped in.
